Peripheral Neuropathy is an incredibly common presentation due to a huge range of pathologies including nerve impingement from spinal problems, Trauma, disease and other conditions such as diabetes.
Peripheral neuropathy may have a massive impact on balance. A major contributor to balance is the ability to control the movement of the trunk, over the foot. The ankle and subtalar joint control have a crucial part to play in this and loss of that control can be catastrophic. If the neuropathy is so severe that the sufferer is unable to stand still, the presentation below describes a clinical test and tratment to restore stability. This was presented at The ISPO world congress in Cape Town 2018 and the American Academy of Orthotists in New Orleans 2019.
